Two ways to work with us

An hour for a decision. Twelve weeks for a change.

The 1-1 Coaching Hour

Sixty minutes with Jo or Zoe on one thing. A price you can't settle on, a proposal you keep rewriting, a client you're not sure about, an idea you want tested, a plan you keep not starting. You bring the problem, we bring the questions, the frameworks and an opinion. You leave with the decision made and your actions written down, in your inbox the next day.

Pick whichever of us the problem belongs to. If it's a number, a client or a conversation, that's Jo. If it's an idea, a goal or the marketing you're not doing, that's Zoe.

The 12-Week Consultancy

This is us in your business. Not for a question, but for a change: the restructure you've been circling, the next level you can see but can't reach, the new service or system you want built properly, or the relaunch of a practice that's lost its spark.

Five 90-minute sessions over twelve weeks, with both of us. You choose who you see for each session depending on what it's for. Between sessions, you get a check-in email from us every week, asking what happened and what's next, so the work keeps moving on the weeks we're not in the room. After each session, you get written notes: what we decided, who's doing what, by when.

If you're not sure which you need, book the hour. That hour on one challenge might be all it takes, but you might reach the end of 60 minutes and realise the problem is the shape of the business, not one specific thing within it. However it looks, we want to support you.

Book a call with Jo if

The problem is a number, a client or a conversation

Jo Wood built five bookkeeping practices. The first four didn't work. The fifth started at her kitchen table with three children in the house, reached six figures inside twelve months, won the ICB LUCA award, and sold in 2023. She was out two weeks later.

The thing people don't know about that fifth practice is how it was priced and sold. When the salons and the restaurants shut in 2020, Jo's clients kept paying. Not because they were loyal, though they were, but because the service had been built, priced and sold so that it was worth paying for with the doors closed. That isn't luck. It's a set of decisions she made, and it's the set most bookkeepers never quite get round to.

She has had the "what do I charge this one" conversation more times than anyone we know. Not in theory. On the phone, with a prospect waiting for a number. And she has walked into more networking rooms than she'd like to count.

Bring Jo for support with:

  • The proposal you've rewritten four times and still haven't sent.
  • The fee you set years ago and the conversation you're dreading about changing it.
  • The sales call you keep losing at the moment they ask "so how much?"
  • The "bit of advisory" a client asked for, and no idea what to deliver or charge for it.
  • Insights you'd like to sell and can't yet picture as a monthly service with a price.
  • Networking: which rooms, what to say, how to walk out with a conversation booked rather than a pile of cards.
  • The client you should let go, and the fear of the gap they'd leave.

What you'll get from time with Jo is a number and the words to say it with. She'll build your Perfect P&L from your take-home figure upwards, score your client list, and tell you which to reprice first, and how. If it's advisory, she'll shape the offer and price it. If it's a sale, she'll prepare you for the call. If it's about your team, she'll bring leadership strategy. She's warm about it, and she's clear about what you need to do. Jo is somebody who's been there and done what you want to do. She's the ultimate mentor in this industry.

Book a call with Zoe if

You've got an idea that won't leave you alone, and nobody sensible to say it out loud to

Zoe Whitman is a qualified accountant who spent fifteen years in finance before she ever ran a practice. Which makes it odd that she's the one with the wild ideas. She's worked as a bookkeeper around her family, moved on to The 6 Figure Bookkeeper, and has spent six years since starting things that sounded unreasonable at the time: a podcast that's now past 400 episodes, several books, a community of 38,000 bookkeepers, and Hey Monika, an AI training platform, despite knowing nothing about software.

Every one of those began as a half-formed idea said out loud to someone who didn't flinch. That's the thing Zoe is for. She likes a big idea. She'll get as excited about yours as you are, and then she'll do what fifteen years of forecasting taught her: pull it apart, find the bit that's actually possible, put a date on it and tell you how to start. Today.

She also knows that most bookkeepers have a marketing problem they're politely ignoring. You know it matters. You're not doing it. Zoe has done it every week for six years in front of the exact people you're trying to reach, and she knows what gets a bookkeeper noticed.

Bring Zoe for support with:

  • A goal you've had for a year and a plan you haven't started.
  • A practice nobody can find: no posts, no profile, no reason for anyone to pick you over the bookkeeper down the road.
  • LinkedIn, a blog, an email newsletter, a podcast: which one, what to say, how often, and how to do it in two hours a week.
  • Too many ideas, no order, and a diary that fills up with everyone else's business.
  • The thing you know you should be doing and keep not doing. Zoe will ask why, and then she'll make sure you're doing something about it by the end of the day.
  • The restructure, the relaunch or the next level: a change too big for an hour, that needs someone in the business with you for twelve weeks.

What you'll get from time with Zoe is a plan you can run, and someone holding you to it. She'll take the goal, cut it down to the moves that matter, put dates on them and tell you what to drop to make room. If it's visibility, you'll leave with the strategy and the manageable routine. She's energetic, she's fast, and she won't let a good idea leave the call without a plan.

Practical questions

The things people ask before they book

What's the difference between the hour and the twelve weeks?

The hour is business coaching: one matter, one of us, one decision, your actions written down the next day. The twelve weeks is consultancy: five 90-minute sessions with both of us, written notes after each one, a check-in email from us every week in between, and a plan that carries from the first session to the last. One is for a question. The other is for changing how the business works.

Which of you should I book?

For the hour, pick one of us. If it's a number, a client or a conversation, Jo: pricing, repricing, proposals, sales calls, advisory, management accounts, networking. If it's an idea you want tested, marketing you're not doing, or a plan you keep not starting, Zoe. The twelve weeks gets you both of us, and you choose who you see for each session based on what it's for.

Should I join the Collective instead?

If what you need is ongoing support to build, price, sell, market, or move into advisory, yes. For £199 a month, you get time with us at least once a week, every course we've made, and a community doing the same work. Coaching and consultancy are for when you need an expert angle on one specific matter, or us in the business for a window of time. Have an hour and decide you want The Bookkeepers' Collective afterwards? We'll take £100 off the price.

I'm in the Collective. Is this included?

No, but your prices are lower: £297 + VAT for the hour instead of £397, and £2,497 + VAT for the twelve weeks instead of £2,997, with the code in your members' area. You can book either directly, because we already know you.

Are the sessions recorded?

No. You'll get written notes instead, so you can stay in the conversation rather than taking minutes.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Your numbers stay between you and The 6 Figure Bookkeeper.

I'm outside the UK. Can I book?

Yes. Use the overseas button; VAT is handled differently, and the price is otherwise the same. Sessions run on UK time.

I still can't decide.

Book a free half hour with Gill. She'll tell you honestly whether you need an hour, the twelve weeks, the Collective, or none of them.

About the hour

How long is it and where does it happen?

Sixty minutes on Zoom. The first part identifies the real problem, then we work through your challenge and build a plan.

What do I need to prepare?

The ten-minute questionnaire, which we share when you book. Nothing else is required. Most people bring their client list and their last P&L to the call because it's useful, but it's not compulsory.

What do I get afterwards?

Your actions in writing within 24 hours: where you are, what you're doing, by when. The hour is a one-off; there's no follow-up built in. If you want us checking in on you, that's the twelve weeks.

Can I book more than one hour?

You can, but if you think you'll need more than one, that's usually a sign it's the twelve weeks. Ask at the end of your first hour, or book a call with Gill.

Can I reschedule the hour?

Once, with 48 hours' notice. With less than that, the hour is used. We've a limited number each month, and we can't resell an empty slot at short notice.

Can I get a refund?

Before the session, yes, in full, if the questionnaire tells us we're not the right people to help. After it, no. You'll have the notes and the plan.

About the twelve weeks

What is it for?

A change, not a question. A restructure, a relaunch, a new service built properly, or the next level you can see and can't reach on your own. If you're not sure the change is big enough for twelve weeks, book the hour first; some people get to the end of it and find that it is.

How do the five sessions work?

Session one is a 90-minute deep dive that ends with your twelve-week plan written down. Sessions two to five are 90 minutes each, about a fortnight apart, and you book them all after session one so the dates are in the diary early. You choose which of us you see for each one, based on what that session is for.

What happens between sessions?

Within 24 hours of each session you get written notes: what we decided, who's doing what, by when. In the weeks we're not meeting, you get a check-in email from us asking what happened and what's in the way. Reply to it, even with one line. It's how the work keeps moving and how we know what to bring next time.

Do I really get both of you?

Yes. We share one set of notes on you, and we both read every one. Whoever you see next has read what the other one wrote, so you never start a session from the beginning.

How do I book it?

If you're in the Collective, straight from this page at the member price. If you're not, book a free half hour with Gill first. We only take on a handful of consultancy clients at a time, and we'd like to have met you before we're in your business for three months.

What if I need to move a session, or pause?

Each session can be moved once with 48 hours' notice. The five sessions have to be used within sixteen weeks of session one, which leaves room for a holiday or a bad fortnight. If something bigger happens, tell us; we'd rather know than watch the dates slide.

Can I get a refund on the twelve weeks?

Before session one, yes, in full, if the questionnaire tells us we're not the right people for the change you want to make. After session one, no. You'll have the plan and the dates, and we'll have cleared the diary for you.

What happens when this month's slots are gone?

Once you've purchased your coaching session or your consultancy package, you'll be given our diary link to book yourself in. If there isn't a time that works, we also share details of how to get in touch so that we can try to find a time that works.

A letter, if you've read this far

Hello.

If you've scrolled all the way down here, you're not browsing. You're deciding. And you're probably doing what you always do with a decision that costs money: reading everything twice, looking for the reason not to.

We know, because we've watched bookkeepers do it for six years. In the free group, in the Collective, in Jo's inbox at eleven at night. The same careful, capable people who can reconcile anything, who never miss a VAT deadline, who'd spot a duplicated invoice from across the room, sitting on a decision about their own business for months. Sometimes years.

You know which one it is for you. It's the one you thought of when you read the list at the top of this page.

For some of you it's one thing. The email you've drafted twice. The client you keep because leaving feels unkind, even though staying is costing you a day a month. The fee you set in 2022 and haven't looked at since, because looking at it means changing it. That's an hour. One decision, made properly, with one of us.

For some of you it isn't one thing. It's the business. You've outgrown the way it's set up, or it's outgrown you. You can see the next version of it and you can't get there from here on your own, in the gaps between client work. You don't need a decision. You need someone in it with you for long enough to make the change stick. That's the twelve weeks.

Here's what we've learned. It is almost never a knowledge problem. You've done the courses. You've got the spreadsheet. If we asked you what the Perfect P&L is, you could explain it better than we do.

What's missing is someone across the table.

Someone who's looked at your actual numbers, not a worked example. Who's had this exact conversation a few hundred times and knows how it ends. Who will tell you what you already suspect, in a voice that isn't yours, so you finally believe it.

For years people have asked us for exactly this. Not another course, not another room. Us. Our attention on their business and nobody else's. We've always said no, because the Collective is where our time goes and there are only two of us.

This is how you get it. An hour with one of us, or twelve weeks with both, on the thing you've been circling.

We'll be honest with you about which one you need. Jo has told people on a free call that they don't need an hour; they need the Wednesday room, because that was the truth. We'd rather you were in the Collective at £199 a month than paid for a session that wasn't the right thing. We'll say so. It's a small business, and our reputation is our only marketing.

We'll also be honest: it won't be comfortable. We'll ask what you charge and why, and whether you'd accept that answer from a client. We'll look at the happiness score on your client list and ask about the one at the bottom. We're going to be kind, because we remember what it felt like, and we're going to be direct, because that's what you're paying for.

And then we're going to write it down. The decisions, the actions, the dates. In your inbox the next morning. Not because you need reminding, but because a decision that's written down with a date on it behaves differently from one that lives in your head. If you're with us for twelve weeks, we'll write it down after every session, and we'll email you every week in between to ask what happened.

One more thing, because it's what we'd want to know.

An hour with a person is an hour, and twelve weeks in a business is twelve weeks. There are two of us. So there are a limited number of each, and when they're gone they're gone until the diary opens again. That's not a sales trick. It's a calendar.

If the thing you thought of at the top of the page is still sitting there, bring it.

We'll see you on the call.

Jo and Zoe

P.S. Still not sure which to book, or whether to book at all? Gill will tell you straight on a free half hour. She's talked people out of it before.
